Benny Royal (born in Rotterdam, real name Ben Bakker) was captivated by dance music at a young age. He started out DJing in local clubs and after playing for some years, he had the feeling that he could do more with the music instead of simply playing other people’s records. He began learning how to produce and he commenced work on his own productions. It didn’t take long before Benny’s track entitled “Keep on Moving” became a huge hit in Holland. Benny quickly followed this up with “Dance Electric” (a collaboration with his friend Ludaphunk) this record was picked up by legendary Grammy award winning American DJ, Roger Sanchez. He non-stop promoted this track on his radio show “Release Yourself”. The track was also selected for his mix album Release Yourself 07.
At the start of 2008, Benny’s career was genuinely on the up. His producing skills became more finely-tuned and as a consequence Benny’s productions appeared in the leading dance charts. This led to his tracks gaining real support from almost all the major players in the scene. His good friend Robbie Taylor informed him that seminal UK label Toolroom Records had a remix competition for Dirty South’s track “Minority”. Of course, Benny’s remix won the competition! This was subsequently a major breakthrough for Benny, as the track became a Top 10 track on the world’s leading download portals.
Last year, Benny released many tracks which went on to enjoy real success in clubs and festivals worldwide. The Benny Royal name recently also become a household name in the international DJ scene, quickly gaining a major following on international download portal Beatport, as well as other music sites. A collaboration with Spain’s Abel Ramos resulted in the track entitled “El Cabron”, which enjoyed widespread success in 2011. Another studio hook-up, this time with Robbie Taylor, resulted in the “Vodka” record which made it into the Beatport Top 20 (DJ PP mix). Next to these official productions, his success continued with several bootlegs, mash-ups and remixes, including Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” bootleg and a Within Temptation mash-up which became successes in their own rights. Benny offers genuine dancefloor-worthy versions bootlegs, time and time again.
During the years Benny released tracks on labels like Stealth Records, Toolroom Records, Spinnin' Records, Ultra Records, Stereo Productions, 303 Lovers, Nervous Records and Netswork Records.
December 2011 started with a big bang for Benny Royal when his track “Let the Beat Hit ’Em” went straight to top spot in the Dance Tunes chart. This record was produced with DJ Dennis van der Geest, a collaboration which has spawned more releases which will see the light of day in 2012.
